Microneedling

Microneedling

Microneedling treatment overview

Microneedling is a treatment which we offer at Rejuvenate at North Street that can offer transformational results gently over time. Medical microneedling can be used to treat a wide range of conditions safely. Popular uses include anti-ageing treatment to promote collagen and elastin formation, helping tighten and improve skin tone, thus reducing the formation of fine lines. It can also be an effective treatment to reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks and pigmentation.

Microneedling is the gentle use of very fine needles to create pores in the skin which allows increased absorption of specific serums that have therapeutic effects. It also creates comfortably a microscopic wound at a cellular level, the natural healing response to which is to increase collagen and promote fibroblast activity, thus helping to improve skin tone and reduce fine lines.

Microneedling is a credible alternative to ablative therapies such as laser therapy. It is more comfortable, has a much shorter healing time (with redness often going within 1-3 days) and is a fraction of the price.

Questions and Answers

Where can I have microneedling?

It is safe to have medical microneedling anywhere on the body where you seek improvements to skin quality, tone and texture. The most popular areas for anti-ageing are the face, neck and hands. Acne treatments for closed acne scars are often to the face and back. Stretch marks and scar correction can be anywhere on the body.

At what age should I start microneedling?

You will see a benefit from your mid-twenties onwards. People in their mid-20s – early 30s typically needing fewer treatments in a year (every 6 months). People in their late 30s – 40s onwards will usually benefit from more regular sessions (every 3-4 months).

How many sessions will I need before I see a difference?

We use a combination of specialised serums and medical grade microneedling to the correct depth to rejuvenate your skin. As such we often fast track the result, getting subtle improvements within 1-2 sessions. For deeper scars and fine lines, it will typically take 3-6 courses for peak results.

It takes 40 days for new skin cells to migrate from the basal layer to the surface layer – it’s this natural process that we are encouraging that creates the delay between treatment and results.

Do I need extra sessions of microneedling to maintain my results?

Once you have achieved the result you are after (typically in 3-6 sessions), we recommend a single session every 3-6 months depending on your skin tone. This will help to promote and maintain your new fresher and healthier skin tone.

Does it hurt to have microneedling?

Here at Rejuvenate, we put your comfort first, investing in equipment that ensures you are at ease throughout all treatments. By using automated microneedling devices, we dramatically reduce any discomfort. As such no topical anaesthetics are needed with most patients likening it to someone running a fingertip over their skin.

How much does it cost for microneedling?

At Rejuvenate the price is determined by the number of sessions booked.

Your consultation is FREE.

We usually recommend 3-6 sessions initially to achieve the skin improvements you desire, with each session spaced 6 weeks apart. Then a single session every 3-6 months to help maintain the skin improvements made.

Sessions are charged at £150 per session, so a block of three treatments would cost £450 and a block of six treatments £900.

Aftercare instructions

Once you have finished your treatment, you will be provided with an aftercare pack. This information will help you to know what to expect after your treatment:

  • The treated area should resemble moderate sunburn and feel warmer and tighter than usual. This normally reduces by 50% within 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day.
  • Use tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently. Always make sure hands are clean when touching the treated area. It is recommended that make-up is not applied for 24 hours after the procedure. You may use specialist mineral make-up.
  • Broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF 50 is applied after treatment.
  • Continue to use SPF30 sunscreen or higher for 2 weeks.
  • Resume recommended anti-ageing skincare regime once erythema (redness) has gone.
